The Niles North boys basketball program, one of the top teams in the Chicago area, will be without senior starting guard Lorenzo Dillard for the rest the season, coach Glenn Olson confirmed Monday.

According to the Skokie Police Department, the 18-year-old Dillard was charged with domestic battery after a Jan. 27 arrest. Dillard didn’t play Friday in the team’s 56-54 win over Maine West, which gave the No. 13-ranked Vikings at least a share of the CSL North championship. The victory also gave the Vikings (20-3 overall, 8-0 conference) their third consecutive 20-win season and fifth in program history.

Olson said the 6-foot-2 Dillard was dismissed from the team, but the coach didn’t comment as to why. Niles North athletic director Karl Costello also would not comment on Dillard’s situation, other than to report that he’s no longer a member of the varsity basketball team and will not be reinstated at any point.
