District 207 disputes national ranking snubs of Maine East, South

Maine Township High School District 207 is questioning the accuracy of an annual ranking of American high schools by U.S. News & World Report after two of the district’s three schools were omitted from the list.

Nursing home joins protest of Medicaid cuts

About 80 staff members from the Niles Nursing and Rehabilitation Center stood outside the Thompson Center in downtown Chicago with banners stating that proposed Medicaid cuts are threatening seniors. Staff from the Niles nursing home joined hundreds of other nursing-home administrators and workers who rallied together against Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn’s proposed Medicaid cuts that would reduce revenue for nursing homes by about 15 percent. “It would be a nightmare for us,” said Michael Perl, director of the Niles Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. “Just an absolute nightmare.” Perl said that if the proposed cuts are passed, that could result in …

Rain doesn’t put damper on Morton Grove farmers market preview

A little rain couldn’t keep away customers looking for Mother’s Day presents at the Morton Grove Farmers’ Market preview. Now at a new location at 6210 Dempster St. the market drew at least 600 people despite wet weather, said market manager Kristina Otte. “It started slowly, but it picked up quickly,” she said. Though the rain was falling when the market opened at 8 a.m. May 12, all of the vendors showed up, she added. Once the rain gave way to a spotty drizzle people started making their way to the market. “It really ended up being a good day.” …
