The Resurrection College Prep High School library hosted a series of discussion groups and a writing contest based on the 2012 One School, One Book selection, the New York Times bestselling novel, “Divergent.”
Written by 24-year-old Veronica Roth, the novels tells of a society that has been broken into five factions: The honest, the intelligent, the peaceful, the brave and the selfless. At age 16, society members must choose which sect to join.
Students and staff at Resurrection have explored the themes in the book, which was selected for the One School, One Book program at Resurrection as an all-school reading project.
In conjunction with Teen Read Week, Resurrection students and staff participated in the Teen Read Creative Writing Contest, based on the novel. The student winners of the contest are Michelle McGlinn, first place for her piece titled “The Prologue,” Alani Vargas, second place for her piece titled “Deliver Us From Evil” and Allison Liesz, third place for her untitled submission.~.
