McAuliffe takes 20th House

CHICAGO — Incumbent Michael McAuliffe has retain his seat in the Illinois 20th House District.
With 87 of 87 precincts reporting, Republican McAuliffe had 22,671 votes versus Democratic challenger Bruce Randazzo’s 14,751, according to unofficial vote totals.
McAuliffe suggested his vote totals reflected the fact that his constituents from before redistricting know him and are happy with his actions.
“I’m still getting out to the new parts of my district,” he said Tuesday. “And I look forward to meeting them.”
Randazzo, a decades-long political activist, ran against McAuliffe on a platform of looking out for the regular guy. That outlook included a new formula for determining property tax rates that would reflect the actual worth of property parcels and providing better care for the aging population.
He also bristled at the thought of quid-pro-quo politics, where elected officials trade votes for favored projects.
McAuliffe stood by his philosophy of listening to constituents, keeping them informed and voting according to their responses, including on such issues as property values, education and the state of Illinois’ economy, which cannot pay its bills on time nor fund its pension obligations.
