Five more Park Ridge-Niles School District 64 students were recently diagnosed with pertussis, also known as whooping cough, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health.
The most recent cases include a fifth-grader at Roosevelt School, 1001 S. Fairview Ave.; a fourth-grader at Field School, 707 Wisner St.; a sixth- and seventh-grader, at Lincoln Middle School, 200 S. Lincoln Ave.; and a fifth-grader at Washington School, 1500 Stewart Ave.
Roosevelt School was notified by the Cook County Department of Public Health on Feb. 9, and Field School and Lincoln Middle School were notified Feb. 14.
The second case of pertussis at Lincoln was reported Feb. 17, as was the case at Washington School.
Information about the whooping-cough diagnoses was sent to parents.
Since November there have been 10 reported cases of whooping cough in District 64 schools, two involving staff members. Four of the cases have occurred at Lincoln Middle School.
District 64 has recommended that parents contact their health-care provider with any questions or concerns.
