Park Ridge police surveillance of burglary suspects ends in arrest

CHICAGO — An investigation by Park Ridge and Des Plaines police led to the arrest of two men from unincorporated Maine Township on burglary charges in Chicago.
Mariusz Poplawski, 24, of 9703 Bianco Terrace, and Sebastian Dybala, 23, of 9374 Landings Lane, were taken into custody on Feb. 7 after officers conducting surveillance on the men reported they were involved in the burglary of two condos in the 8700 block of West Bryn Mawr Avenue on Chicago’s Northwest Side.
Chicago Police Officer Joshua Purkiss said Chicago Police charged Poplawski with four counts of residential burglary and charged Dybala with three counts.
Des Plaines and Park Ridge police said officers began conducting surveillance on the men after identifying them as burglary suspects on Chicago’s Northwest Side and other area communities. On Feb. 7 investigators followed the pair to the Bryn Mawr address where the additional burglaries allegedly occurred.
Des Plaines police have connected the men to at least four residential burglaries within that community, though no additional charges have been filed, Deputy Chief Nick Treantafeles said on Feb. 13.
Park Ridge police have also not filed charges against Poplawski and Dybala, according to Deputy Police Chief Lou Jogmen.
“None of (the burglaries reported in Park Ridge) can be attributed to them at this point,” he said. “Our investigation continues.”
Jogmen said police began investigating Poplawski and Dybala based on information from other law enforcement agencies and tips from the public.
“For us to get them off the street we helped our citizenry, even if we can’t put (a charge on them) in Park Ridge,” he said.
Poplawski and Dybala remained in Cook County Jail custody this week.
In another development, on the same day police took Poplawski and Dybala into custody, Park Ridge officers arrested a woman in a separate car burglary case who gave police a home address next door to the condominium complex the Poplawski and Dybala were accused of burglarizing. Jogmen said no connection was immediately made between the two cases.
